A Justly Famed Area

The Bay Area ranks as among the most famed in the world. The widely known elements of the appeal are easily enough stated: a spectacular location around San Francisco Bay and a storied history.

This history features signature events like the Gold Rush, the counter cultural currents of the 60s, and a dynamic economy driven by the innovative tech industries of today.

The cultural diversity of the seven million people is similarly dazzling. The Census Bureau reports that no fewer than 112 languages are spoken here.

Cultural attractions include:

  • Golden Gate Park — A civic treasure and horticultural delight, with a conservatory, a Japanese garden and natural areas spread out over more than 1,000 acres.
  • Asian Art Museum of San Francisco — A remarkable collection of Asian art, with more than 18,000 works, some of which are thousands of years old.
  • Cable Car Museum — A vintage collection of historic cable cars, as well as photos and displays of a method of conveyance indelibly associated with San Francisco.
