Forensic Accounting/Litigation Support

California Forensic Accounting and Divorce Attorney

Providing Forensic Accounting and Litigation Support to Bay Area Lawyers

Sometimes, during a contested divorce, an unscrupulous or careless spouse may conceal or squander assets that should really be part of the marital estate. If an individual suspects this of the other spouse, it is important for his or her family law attorney to enlist a qualified forensic accountant in order to follow the money and determine if there are hidden assets.

I am tax law and family law attorney and licensed certified public accountant (CPA) Connie Yi. Having worked as a CPA in a large accounting firm before opening my own law firm, I am well equipped to perform forensic accounting services in contested divorce, trust litigation and other complex litigation. Contact my law firm to discuss my forensic accounting and litigation support services. I provide litigation support services to attorneys and law firms throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Pleasanton lawyer finding hidden assets through forensic accounting

My clients in this area of my practice are often other attorneys. When a family law attorney retains me in a divorce case, it is typically because one spouse suspects the other of mismanaging or hiding money. As an experienced California forensic accounting and divorce lawyer, it becomes my job to find out where the money went.

I often start by examining the spouses' bank accounts. If one spouse had control over all of the finances during the marriage, it is possible that money was diverted from the account or used to purchase assets without the other spouse's knowledge. If necessary, I can seek a subpoena to see these bank statements. I also pursue 401(k) accounts, brokerage statements, payroll records and other financial information from the marriage, using online research methods as needed.

Once I have obtained and analyzed the information, it can be used by the attorney handling the divorce litigation, regarding issues such as alimony payments and property division.

Other uses for forensic accounting

Another area where forensic accounting may be needed is trust litigation. If there are allegations that a trust has been mismanaged, there is no substitute for digging into the data and finding out where the money went. I can also perform this service for someone in a business partnership who is concerned about another partner misusing funds.
